Current Programs
1. THE NATIONAL DIASPORA POLICY
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs through its Diaspora Services Department has initiated the process of developing a National Diaspora Policy with support from UNDP. The policy is part of a broad national strategy designed to support mobilization and utilization of Diaspora resources in the country's development agenda. The main objective of this to unbind constraints that affect Diaspora's dignity and accord full participation of Diaspora in national development through integration of Ugandan Diaspora in their host countries.
The focus of the policy is on strengthening national capacity for coordination, and building mutually beneficial partnerships with Diaspora.
2. INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT
Diaspora Services Department was funded by World Bank to carry out feasibility studies aimed at engaging the Diaspora talents in the infrastructure sector specifically in the energy, roads and railways subsectors with particular focus on:
a) Energy sector- to develop staff capacity to manage oil refining and gas processing.
b) Roads sector- Strengthening staff capacity to better handle highway planning and road safety management.
c) Railway sector- Strengthening Railway Corporation staff capacity to manage Public Private Partnerships.
3. INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Uganda Investment Authority together with Diaspora Services Department developed a compendium of investment opportunities for our Diaspora to invest in Uganda. This compendium was launched on 30th December, 2012. It can be downloaded here.
4. HOME IS BEST SUMMIT AND SOCIAL NETWORKING GALAS
These are annual events that are organized by the Uganda Investment Authority and Diaspora Services Department / MOFA. They take place in Uganda annually and target the Ugandan Diaspora who may be in Uganda for various reasons. The members of the Diaspora are taken on a tour of different developments within different regions of Uganda. Presentations on investment opportunities are made and the members of the Diaspora are given an opportunity to share their ideas with government and the public at large.
5. UGANDA CONVENTIONS
The Mission and the MoFA Diaspora Services Department are always represented at the various conventions organized for and by the Ugandans in our area of jurisdiction. These include the Uganda North America Association, and its affiliate Chapters, as well as the various Cultural organizations.
