AMB. TIBALEKA MEETS STAKEHOLDERS ON THE PROPOSED MBARARA UNIVERSITY SPECIALIZED TEACHING HOSPITAL

H.E. Ambassador Marcel R. Tibaleka, Uganda's Ambassador to Germany and who is also accredited to Poland among others, has been on a three-day business visit to Poland where he met stakeholders on the planned establishment of a specialized teaching hospital in Mbarara, Uganda. The project will include components of specialized training, research for drug development and development, highly specialized medical care, highly advanced research and innovation in health and internship training.

Amb. Tibaleka, on 26th August 2020 met with Hon. Prof. Killion Munyama, Chairperson of the Polish Parliamentary Group on Africa. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Julius Zellah, Chairman, Light of Africa Foundation and staff of the Uganda Embassy.

Hon. Munyama informed the Ambassador that the 28-member Polish Parliamentary Group on Africa acts as a political umbrella between Poland and African countries and mobilizes and encourages Polish firms to cooperate with Africa.

Amb. Tibaleka briefed his host on the proposed 1,000 bed capacity project that would be implemented under the PPP model to "Build, Operate and Transfer" and appealed for the financial support of the Polish Government in this regard.

On 27th August 2020, Ambassador Tibaleka travelled to the City of Poznan to meet with Prof. Dr. Andrzej Tykarski, Rector, University of Medicine, who expressed willingness to offer advice on the building designs and equipping of the proposed specialized teaching hospital in Mbarara, Uganda. He further promised to cooperate with the proposed Ugandan teaching hospital by having joint research and teaching programmes.

Ambassador Tibaleka ended his working visit to Poland by visiting the ALVO Medical Equipment Manufacturing Plant in Simigiel, Poland on 28th August 2020, where he was taken around on a guided tour by Ms Katarzyna Weclawek, Director and Area Manager for Africa, ALVO Limited.

ALVO Limited provides innovative solutions and products for operating theatres, hybrid operating theatres, intensive care units, neonatal intensive care units, preparation rooms and other hospital equipment requirements. It has been installing operating theatres and manufacturing medical devices for hospitals around the world for over 25 years.

Amb. Tibaleka was impressed with the ALVO Integra system, that is intended for the full integration of devices and medical image management so as to increase the efficiency of medical personnel and the safety of the patient in the operating room.

ALVO Limited is expected to supply the required medical equipment to the proposed specialized teaching hospital in Mbarara, Uganda.
