Officials from the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities led Uganda's delegation of both private and public sector players alongside Uganda Tourism Board to Frankfurt, Germany, for the Worldwide Exhibition for Incentive Travel, Meetings and Events (IMEX) which took place from 21st to 23rd May 2018 at Exhibition Hall 8, Messe Frankfurt.

IMEX is attended by over 9,000 visitors and features approximately 3,500 exhibitors from 157 countries, spread across 30,223 square metres of exhibition space. The show presents a worldwide exhibition for incentive travel, meetings and events, uniting exhibitors and buyers under one roof.

Ms Gloria Guevara Manzo, President and CEO of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) who was the keynote speaker at the IMEX Opening Ceremony said that growth prospects for the travel and tourism sector worldwide were good with a golden age ahead. She, however, added that in order to fulfill this potential, the industry faced three challenges, namely: (1) that the growth must be sustainable; (2) that the industry had to improve the way it handled crises, both man-made and natural; and (3) security. In addressing these challenges Ms Manzo highlighted the importance of partnerships between private and public organisations and the opportunity for the greater use of biometrics for safety and efficiency.

The Ugandan delegation showcased Uganda's credentials as a leading destination in the region for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE). Uganda's MICE - Tourism segment has grown to complement the already existing variety of natural attractions and experiences that contemporary tourists go to see.
