Cultural Relations

In 1989 the Ugandan German Cultural Society (UGCS), was founded. It converted to the Goethe-Centre Kampala, Ugandan German Cultural Society (GZK / UGCS). The language department of the GZK actively approaches schools with the aim of offering and extending German classes.

The German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst – DAAD) has over 10,000 alumni ex-fellows in Uganda.

InWent, Capacity Building International - Germany, is a non-profit organisation with worldwide operations dedicated to human resource development and continues to support Ugandans with grants to study in Germany. Inwent is commissioned by the German Federal Government, the German business sector, and the German Federal States. Since January 2011 InWent – together with German Development Service (Deutscher Entwicklungsdienst gGmbH - DED), the German Technical Cooperation (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit GmbH - GTZ) - founded the German Foundation for International Cooperation (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit - GIZ).

In July 2009, the German Olympic Sports Union and the Ugandan Ministry of Education and Sports signed an agreement to send German long-term experts to Uganda to train sports teachers. They will remain in the country for about four years to encourage and support the Ugandan athlets.
